STUDIES ON HEALING

Studies on Healing is a series of works consisting of partially broken objects, mainly glass .

The concepts of healing and repair are shifted: a condition is “embodied” in an inanimate object on which the moment of loss is irrevocably inscribed and carried within them.

A traditional restoration intervention would erase the traces of memory, while healing is disconnected from practices of erasure and the objects are treated in such a way that the trauma is visible. The objects are separated from their practical function, displaced from their assumed static status, and simulate subjects in a process not of repair but of healing.

In a continuation of the series I use beeswax, a delicate material in its way, to support these equally fragile assemblies. The practice itself, a slow, painstaking, and intensive process, quite personal as well, alludes to healing which, like the work of the bees, takes place in the dark.
