MORE THAN WATER, MORE THAN RAIN, I NEED ELECTRICITY_part II The Fountain
The installation follows the research project on the industrial area of Budel Dorplein (NL), where the industrial contamination sustains a rare and protected ecosystem.
As the industry exploits water in various ways, the structure of a decomposed fountain becomes a symbol of modern-manmade-nature. A representation of human mastery over water and nature in a broader sense. The opposite of a waterfall, a metaphor of tamed nature.
The choreography of water moving between the bag, the tubes and vessels, mimics disrupted natural cycles. But unlike natural systems, this one is artificial, fragile, dependent on electricity, tubing, and balance. If the pumps stop, the system collapses. The piece becomes a quiet critique of our illusion of control over ecological systems. The sound of circulating water combined with the mechanical hum of the pumps a meditative tempo that invites reflection. A network of containment - quietly failing, quietly sustained. A space where the natural, artificial, and superficial merge, asking us to reconsider their boundaries.
Reflecting the vulnerabilities of ecosystems at large, “More than water..” responds not by representing catastrophe, but by staging a quiet, ongoing tension. It does not simply represent an environmental issue—it embodies it.
