THE INFINITY COUNTER
The Infinity Counter is a machine that counts nothing - from zero to infinity. It gives purpose to doing nothing, making nothing count for something.
The viewer participates by activating the mechanism by pressing the switch. The installation comes to life: lights flicker on, liquids flow through transparent tubes, and the meter begins to count. The action—though seemingly insignificant—is imprinted.
In a world obsessed with productivity, performance metrics, and digital validation, The Infinity Counter is a speculative apparatus that embraces the act of doing nothing. This low-tech, organic-looking machine creates space for reflection, embracing the awkward and often overlooked “nothing moments", by measuring stillness and giving form to emptiness. A speedometer counts this “nothing time” suggesting a surreal law of physics between “nothing time” and speed.
The Infinity Counter is a poetic tool for disconnection, an analog refuge in a digitized world. It doesn’t demand your data or attention. It simply asks you to be present in doing nothing.
