APPIA 39 _ SOUVENIRS FROM THE CRITICAL ZONE
A multi-dimensional research project exploring the intersection of archaeology and art, developed during an ongoing excavation at Appia Antica 39, conducted by the University of Ferrara. Invited as an artist in residence, the artist borrowed the archaeologist’s methods and experimented with the processes of excavation, producing a creative, speculative approach to archaeology - exploring its results, interpretations and material culture within the living landscape.
Over the course of a month, this collaboration was an experiment in how artistic practices can inform and enhance archaeological practice, and how it can be transformed into a public engagement project to confront current and speculative environmental issues, with the aim of challenging or transforming perceptions.
The project consisted of 3 chapters (links above).
The project was realized in collaboration with ECeC laboratory under the scientific direction of Francesca Romana Fiano (University of Ferrara).
